Who this policy covers
This policy applies to cairnstreecare.com.au and to Cairns Tree Care, which operates this website as a referral service connecting property owners in Far North Queensland with independent tree contractors. It explains how personal information is collected, used, disclosed and stored, and what you can do about it. It is written to the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
What is collected
Information you give us. When you call, fill in a quote form or otherwise make an enquiry, we collect the information you provide. That is typically your name, phone number, email address, the property address the work relates to, and whatever you tell us about the trees and the job. Photographs you send become part of the enquiry record.
Information collected automatically. Like almost every website, our web server and analytics record technical information about visits: IP address, the referring page, the pages viewed and the time, browser type and version, device type and operating system. This is used in aggregate to understand how the site performs. We do not attempt to identify individual visitors from it.
We do not collect sensitive information as defined in the Privacy Act, and you should not send it. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Why it is collected and how it is used
Enquiry information is collected for one primary purpose: to arrange a quote and, if you proceed, to have tree work carried out at your property. Specifically it is used to contact you about your enquiry, to pass your job details to a contractor who can quote it, to follow up on a quote, and to keep records of enquiries and the work arising from them.
Technical information is used to operate, secure and improve the website.
We do not sell personal information. We do not use your details for unrelated marketing without your consent, and any marketing message we do send will include a way to opt out.
Who it is disclosed to
Tree contractors. This is the core of the service. Your name, contact details, property address and job description are passed to one or more independent contractors so they can contact you and quote the work. Those contractors are separate businesses responsible for their own handling of your information.
Service providers. Hosting, form and customer-management platforms, email providers and analytics providers process data on our behalf. Some of these are located outside Australia, which means information may be stored or processed overseas. We take reasonable steps to use providers with appropriate protections in place.
Where the law requires it. We may disclose information where required or authorised by law, to respond to a lawful request, or where reasonably necessary to prevent a serious threat to life, health or safety.
On a business transfer. If the site or business is sold, enquiry records may transfer to the new owner, who would remain bound by this policy in relation to that information.
Cookies and analytics
The site uses cookies — small files stored by your browser — and may use third-party analytics and advertising tools that set their own cookies. These help us understand traffic and how pages are used. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; parts of the site, particularly embedded quote forms, may not work properly if you do.
Storage, security and retention
Information is stored in hosted systems protected by access controls and encryption in transit. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of information transmitted over the internet, but we take reasonable steps to protect it from misuse, loss, unauthorised access, modification and disclosure.
Enquiry records are kept only as long as needed for the purpose they were collected for, plus any period required by law or reasonably needed to resolve a dispute. Records that are no longer needed are deleted or de-identified.
Access, correction and complaints
You can ask what personal information we hold about you and ask for it to be corrected if it is wrong or out of date. Requests are handled within a reasonable period and there is normally no charge. In limited circumstances access may be refused, in which case you will be told why.
If you think your privacy has been mishandled, raise it with us first by calling (07) 4064 9848 so it can be investigated and answered. If you are not satisfied with the response, you can take the complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
